Exploring Al Hamra, Oman

Al Hamra Wilayat (Province) it’s a part of Al-Dakhiliyah governorate in Sultanate of Oman, Al-Hamra town sits over 600 meters above the sea level, and is the home to a number of villages including the mountainside village of Misfat Al Abryeen, Wadi Ghul (Ghul Valley) and Bimah City.

The town and province lie on the southern slopes of the Shams Mountain. The town built on a tilted rock slab. Many of the houses have two, three and even four stories and been established with ceilings made of palm beams and fronds topped by mud and straw.

Al Hamra Sightseeings

Mount Shams

Mount Shams: (the sun mountain), the highest mountain in Oman, sits northeast of the town of Al Hamra. It is considered to be the highest peak in all over Oman 3000 Meters above the sea level. And affectionately called (The Grand canyon of Oman). The view from the very top or the rim of mount Shams is absolutely spectacular and breathtaking.

Al Hoota Cave

Al Hoota Cave: is located at the foot of Mount Shams. Where Jebel Shams soars into the clouds it plunges deep into the earth, it is one of the largest cave systems in the world.

Misfat Al-Abryeen

Misfat Al-Abryeen: is a unique mountainous village located 1,000 m above sea level on the mountain foothills. The village derives its name from the Al Abri tribe. Misfat Al Abryeen has many features that make it a wonderful experience for any visitor. The village old houses built been built from traditional mud with palm frond roofs on top of solid rocks. The combination of these elements gives a visitor to Misfat Al Abryeen a dramatic image from the viewing platform, Points of interests and tips for visiting tourists.

Al Aflaj

Al Aflaj: Many villagers of Misfat Al Abryeen rely on the agricultural terraces for their livelihood, where bananas, pomegranates, papayas, mangoes, citrus trees and of course palm trees are grown. Those terraces along the mountain slopes are watered through an intricate Falaj system that has been carved through the hard rocks of the mountain, and is supplied from a spring source that can be reached by following a short track along the falaj. There is also another track on the opposite side of the village which passes through more agricultural terraces and leads to a steep stairwell downhill through more gardens and plantations, and then back up again.

Wadi Ghul

Wadi Ghul: The visit to Ghul Valley is a visit to the geology in the first place, where there are rock formations of gray limestone dating back to 270 million years and rocks with a glass texture caused by water penetration.
